Cantine Aperte is a wine event that has taken place on the last Sunday in May across Italy every year for the past 20 years and involves interested wineries opening up their doors to the public for wine tasting. We love all berries, but I’d have to say that both strawberries and raspberries are my favorites. Just recently, I realized that strawberries would soon be out of season here in Umbria and I therefore felt I needed to buy them every time I visited the local grocery store or market. It is hard to believe, but it is already June, and I can see every time we visit the local farmer’s markets that spring is eclipsing into summer. Fava beans are not as plentiful, strawberries are giving way to apricots, (the first of our fresh locally grown stone fruit), and really fresh artichokes are becoming scarce.
