Since my Birthday contest giveaway was such a great success, I decided to run one more for Valentine’s Day! For this contest which will run through until midnight February 14th, I am very excited to be giving away an amazing 7-Quart Bowl-Lift Residential Stand Mixer generously donated by the wonderful folks at KitchenAid. (MSRP is $549!) I personally couldn’t live without my KitchenAid stand mixer and use it for everything from making pasta, kneading dough, grinding meat and... Read the whole entry »
Valentine’s Day has now become a very large, commercial affair, but it still remains a special time for us to tell those we love how important they are to us. Every year, as February 14th approaches, candy, flowers, gifts, and cards are exchanged between loved ones, but where did this holiday actually originate? Quite obviously, one would first assume that there was in fact a man named St. Valentine, who somehow was responsible for creating this day of romance. In fact, it is said that... You will notice a new feature recently added to IFF to make your recipe search even easier. Along with the general overall blog Search Box in the right side panel of every page, there is now a Recipe Search Box directly below it. Simply type in an ingredient (I typed in tomatoes shown in the image above), or a recipe name in the Recipe Search box to access the advanced recipe search. When you search for recipes, you will now see an image of the recipe and have the option to save the recipe to... Read the whole entry »

When I completed my blog...

If you look through the dessert category on this blog, you’ll see that I really love easy, rustic lemon cakes. I think a lemon flavored cake is refreshing and almost never too sweet, and any cakes that include ricotta cheese or yogurt are usually always very moist as well. I have recently been working hard to create desserts that are a little healthier by using olive oil instead of butter, and by substituting either whole grain or nut flours for some of the usual all-purpose flour.... Valentine’s Day is a time to show that special someone in your life how much you care, and what expresses that more than a well planned, elegant dinner for two? It is suggested that if you are setting the mood for love, that you should keep the meal light, the portions small, and surround yourself with scented flowers and candlelight. I have created two complete menus for Valentine’s Day, one for those who prefer seafood, and another for those who would rather have meat. You can...
